Accepting Relief Items for Those Affected by the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami

Relief items are currently being collected for victims of the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami from companies, groups, and individuals at the following designated collection sites in municipalities throughout Miyazaki Prefecture.
The municipal and prefectural governments, Japanese self-defense forces, and Miyazaki Trucking Association will work together in shipping donated relief goods to the devastated areas.

1) Types of relief goods being accepted

  •  In order to avoid any confusion in regards to the collection, storage, and dispatch of relief goods in both Miyazaki and receiving areas (areas damaged by the earthquake or tsunami), only items that are noted on the list and that meet all of the requirements explained in each column will be accepted. 
  • Please be aware that items brought to a receiving facility that do not meet the requirements noted on the list will not be accepted, and you will be required to take them home.
  •  We are trying to monitor the needs of those living in affected areas and plan on revising the list of items being collected as needed. In the event of a change we will be informing you via the prefectural and various municipal websites.
*Spent goods, goods with an expiration date for use with less than three months remaining, and raw goods will NOT be accepted.
◎Top priority goods being collected
  Item Description Requirements
1 Nonperishables (packaged rice、canned goods、vacuum packed food stuffs)  Items will be accepted in boxed units only 
2 Beverages besides water (particularly vegetable and fruit juices)  Unopened / Boxed Items Only 

◎Low priority goods being collected
  Item Description Requirements 
1 Small bags of rice (3 kilogram / 5 kilogram bags etc.)  No-wash Rice (musenmai) Only  
2 Disposable Silverware (paper cups, paper plates, spoons, and disposable chop sticks)  New and Unopened Items only 
3 Menstrual Sanitary Products  Items will be accepted in boxed units only 
4 Disposable Diapers (for infants)  Items will be accepted in boxed units only 
5 Disposable Diapers (for seniors)   Items will be accepted in boxed units only 
6 Incontinence Pads  Items will be accepted in boxed units only 
7 Pre-moistened towelettes  Items will be accepted in boxed units only 
  • Currently we are looking into collecting relief goods for individuals that have evacuated to and are currently residing in Miyazaki prefecture. Please wait for future updates.
  • We are trying to monitor the needs of those living in affected areas and plan on revising the list of items being collected as needed. In the event of a change we will be informing you via the prefectural and various municipal websites.

2) Facilities that will be accepting relief items and corresponding donation periods

This information is noted on index 2 “List of Facilities Accepting Relief Goods in Miyazaki Prefecture”

  • Please note that goods will not be accepted at prefectural or municipal facilities which are not noted on this list. Also, when taking donations to an accepting facility, please call the facility in advance to check donation requirements.

3) Recipients of Relief Items

Individuals who donate relief supplies may not specify which area shall receive that donation.

  • Please understand that in order to properly distribute relief supplies to the many areas that were damaged, the Miyazaki government in combination with other government agencies, the Association of Prefectural Governors, and the governments of affected prefectures will work together in deciding which areas receive relief supplies.
