Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan’s land of sunshine

Miyazaki Prefecture has been positioning itself under the catchphrase of “Japan’s land of sunshine.” With its mild climate and beautiful nature, abundant foodstuffs, culture and climate steeped in mythology, not to mention warm people and relaxed lifestyle, Miyazaki Prefecture is full of wonderful treasures that we should be proud to share with the world.

Climate

Thanks to the warm tides of the Kuroshio Current in the Pacific Ocean, the area is warm and has some of the longest hours of sunlight in Japan, and this mild climate nurtures a rich natural environment. This favorable climate and environment have enabled Miyazaki Prefecture to develop into a thriving hub for sports camps and marine sports.

Nature

Miyazaki is a mountainous prefecture, with abundant, high-quality water flowing from the valleys of the Kyushu Mountains running north-west into the Hyuga Sea as numerous rivers. The Miyazaki Plain and the Miyakonojo Basin stretch out as broad flatlands, with several high mountains. To the north is Mount Sobo and to the south the Kirishima Mountain Range, which is a national park. The coastline is approximately 405 kilometers long, with many inlets and outlets in the north and south. From the center to the south, there is a stretch of beautiful ocean along the coastline known as the Nichinan Coast, a popular tourist destination.

Foodstuffs and cuisine

Blessed with rich nature and a mild climate, Miyazaki is a treasure trove of foodstuffs, with abundant harvests from both the sea and land. Miyazaki’s diverse agricultural produce includes among other things cucumbers, green peppers, mangoes, kumquats, and Hyuganatsu oranges. Agriculture is the main industry of Miyazaki Prefecture, and its agricultural output in 2021 was the fourth largest in Japan.

In terms of livestock products, Miyazaki is one of Japan’s top producers of beef cattle, pigs, and broilers. Of these, Miyazaki beef in particular is held in high esteem both in Japan and overseas. Renowned as “the best tasting beef in Japan,” it won the Prime Minister’s Award, the highest accolade, at the National Wagyu Proficiency Show on four consecutive occasions, the first in the competition’s history to achieve this feat. Miyazaki also produces a variety of local dishes, such as chicken nanban (fried chicken with tartar sauce) and hiyajiru (cold soup), as well as shochu, a variety of distilled beverage.

*Chicken meat produced domestically, which are raised for a short period of time, typically around 50 to 60 days.

Land of myth and legend

Miyazaki, which has many locations associated with the stories of gods and goddesses written in "Kojiki" and "Nihon Shoki," the oldest existing historical books in Japan, is called "a land of myths".

MICE

Despite being surrounded by a rich natural environment, the airport is located in close proximity to central Miyazaki City, providing excellent access to venues. In addition, the city has many attractions as a MICE venue, such as rich food, history, and traditions. As a result, many large-scale conventions are held here every year, with excellent facilities that can flexibly accommodate your needs and experienced staff to assist you to ensure the success of your event.
