Abstract
Between July 2002 and May 2003, a particularly large amount of measles cases
were observed in Miyazaki Prefecture.
We wish to report the results of our findings
during this time when we studied the occurrence of measles patients, and also
the effectiveness of the newly developed Vero/hSLAM cell to detect measles pathogens,
and isolate the measles virus. 26 cases of the measles virus were isolated from
62 samples.
The measles virus became clear with the genotype H1 style by gene
searching in both the 2002〜03 season and also the 2003〜04 season.
Vero/hSLAM cell is better at detecting the measles virus than B95a cell. This is due toits
high sensitivity to the measles virus, and also because the dispersion is early
afterthe appearance of CPE (Cytopathic effect).
